We are always looking for motivated Ph.D. students, internship students, postdoctoral researchers, and collaborative partners to join our team. Our research focuses on the intersection of signal processing, machine learning, and physical modeling for audio and acoustics.
For Prospective Students
Our lab is part of the Informatics Program, Graduate Institute for Advanced Studies, SOKENDAI, and we welcome both domestic and international students for our 5-year and 3-year Ph.D. programs.
- Financial Support: Most of our students receive financial support as Research Assistant (RA) of SOKENDAI’s scholarship programs or other research projects, allowing them to focus on their research. MEXT Scholarship is also an option for international students. We also provide strong support for applications to the JSPS Research Fellowship (DC) and other fellowships.
- Research Environment: With a low student-to-faculty ratio, we provide close mentoring and high-quality research guidance tailored to each research phase. Students also have full access to high-performance computers and professional acoustic measurement facilities.
- Career Path: Our research covers everything from fundamental theory to social implementation, preparing our graduates for careers in both academia and global industry leaders.
- Working Professionals: We offer flexible research scheduling for working professionals who wish to pursue a Ph.D. while maintaining their careers.

Fellowships: In addition to employment within our lab’s research project, we accept researchers through various fellowship programs, including:
Recruitment for Project Researcher (Postdoctoral Fellow): https://www.nii.ac.jp/en/about/recruit/2024/0315.html- JSPS Postdoctoral Fellowships for Research in Japan: https://www.jsps.go.jp/english/e-fellow/index.html
- DAAD-NII Post-Doctoral Program: https://www.nii.ac.jp/en/glo-daad/
- Research Independence: While contributing to lab-wide projects, we highly encourage and support researchers in pursuing their own research themes.
- International Presence: By leveraging NII’s global network, we support our members in building an international research network.
We also host graduate students from other universities as Special Collaborative Research Students. For further details regarding the research support systems, please see:
Internships
We host internship students from institutions that have a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with NII.
- Duration: Typically 3 to 6 months.
- Research Outcomes: We aim for high-quality research results, with the goal of submitting papers to top-tier conferences in the field.
- Support: Administrative support for visa applications and accommodation is provided.
